Key Chapter Order Instructions

1. This order form is for chapter orders. Single orders may be placed using the Phi Beta Kappa Order Form for Keys and Certificates. Chapter orders for certificates should be compiled on the Phi Beta Kappa Membership Certificate Order Form.
 
2. All keys are of specified weights and standard design. They bear the insignia which appeared on the original Phi Beta Kappa medal adopted December 5, 1776.
 
3. Keys for members in course are engraved with the name of the college and the calendar year of election. Keys for alumni and honorary members are engraved with the official name of the chapter and the calendar year of admission to Phi Beta Kappa. Add A. or H. respectively, after the year on key orders for alumni and honorary members.
 
4. There is a limit of 16 letters and spaces that can be engraved on a key. Initials may be used for first and middle names. Each key must include the entire last name and at least one initial.
 
5. Each key, key pin and bar pin is personalized. Returned items are subject to a re-engraving fee.
 
6. Send no money with this order. You will be billed when the order is received. A special 10% discount will be allowed on each chapter order for five or more keys.
 
7. Orders can usually be delivered in three weeks after receipt. Allow four weeks in April, May, or June. Chapter orders are shipped U.P.S. A suitable street address (not a P.O. Box) must be provided for U.P.S. delivery.

Certificate Chapter Order Instructions

1. This order form is for chapter orders of membership certificates. Single orders may be placed using the Phi Beta Kappa Order Form for Keys and Certificates. Chapter orders for keys should be compiled on the Phi Beta Kappa Order Form for Chapters.
 
2. All certificates, of heavy parchment paper 8.5" x 11" in size, are engrossed with the official name of the chapter; e.g. Alpha of Virginia at the College of William and Mary. Certificate frames are matted with walnut finish, 11" x 14" in size.
 
3. Engrossed certificates are like the facsimile shown above. Unengrossed certificates are available to chapters only and do not include the member's name and date of initiation. Chapters that prefer to have engrossing done locally may order unengrossed certificates by entering the name of the chapter in the "Name" column. On orders for engrossed certificates, enter each member's name as it should appear on the certificate. There is no limit on the number of letters in a name for engrossing purposes.
 
4. The month, day, and year to be engrossed will ordinarily be the date of initiation. But the date of election may be substituted if the member is to be initiated by another chapter and the initiation date is not yet known.
 
5. Chapter orders are shipped U.P.S. A suitable street address (not a P.O. Box) must be provided for the U.P.S. delivery.
 
6. Unengrossed certificates can usually be delivered about three weeks after receipt of the order. Allow four weeks for engrossed certificates.
